Viewline Industry is the big brother to Viewline’s 550 reporting product.
What’s the difference between Viewline 550 and Viewline Industry? Viewline 550 is great for domestic/light commercial drain surveying work in the 100 – 150mm diameter range. Viewline Industry is good for both drains and sewers, so 100mm diameter and larger. The main difference between the two is that Viewline Industry contains the full MSCC5 sewer code base and uses SRM grading. Viewline 550 contains the Domestic code base and uses DRB grading.
What does this mean? Your client may specifically ask for full MSCC5 compatibility if you are working on larger diameter sewers. Water Companies, Network Rail and the Highways Agency are likely to ask for full MSCC5 compliance.
What is OS19x? This is a training programme provided by an independent company. The training involves understanding the full MSCC5 coding system and being tested on that knowledge. It is not a requirement unless the organisation you are working for specifies it as a requirement. It is proof of competence.
So, what is CDS? This is another training programme provided by an independent company. The training involves understanding the Domestic coding system, drainage law, drainage investigation and remedial recommendations (more information here). It is EU Skills registered. It is not a requirement unless the organisation you are working for specifies it as a requirement. It is proof of competence.
Which training should I get? It depends on what your clients’ requirements are and the type of surveying you do. In a lot of cases, your client might not recommend any training requirement. In all cases, our software actually guides you into conforming to either standard and automatically grades drains or sewers for you.
So, should I use Viewline Industry or Viewline 550? This is very dependant on the work you do and what your clients’ requirements are.
