8. Copyminder Licensing Problems

Licensing for our Windows based applications is achieved using Copyminder (CM). Viewline will want to check the CM server occasionally to check the validity of the license. CM licensing means an application’s license is tied to the machine. This means that an internet connection is needed to check with the CM server that the license and the machine are legitimate.

If there is no internet connection available, the connection attempt will time out and a dialog box will appear with instructions on how to do a manual activation.

A manual activation can be selected but will also display if the internet connection to the license server could not be made multiple times.

Users will still need an internet connection to do this, but it can be on a different device (e.g. mobile phone) as an activation code is generated in a browser which must by typed in to the dialog on the
machine with your software.

You can still register but you need this page for Microcosm Manual Activation https://primary.copyminder.com/activate.php It will ask for both the license key and installation code that you see on the dialog, and give you back the code you need to register.

If you uninstall and reinstall Viewline, it will reset the protection state, so you should try again to register in the normal way, if it happens that the call to the license server is still blocked though (Anti virus / firewall / router etc) then it will end up in that same state and require manual activation.

Occasionally a license may need to be moved to a new machine for various reasons that include the machine being broken or replaced in any way. We can do this for legitimates reasons. However, we reserve the right to charge for this purpose if it appears that the reason for license swapping is because the user want to use the same license on multiple machines. In this case we would recommend purchasing additional licenses. We provide a discount for additional licenses.
